Ryan Reynolds issues “heart attacks” response after more Wrexham chaos
Wrexham’s penchant for late drama continued on Tuesday night with a last-gasp winner from Elliot Lee which sparked the perfect response from Hollywood owner Ryan Reynolds
Ryan Reynolds came up with the perfect response after Wrexham produced more late drama in Tuesday’s League Two win over Sutton United.
The Red Dragons have rarely done things the easy way since Reynolds and fellow Hollywood actor Rob McElhenney took ownership of the club in 2021, and Tuesday’s win was the latest dramatic conclusion at The Racecourse Ground.
Star striker Paul Mullin fired Wrexham into an early lead but they were pegged back on the hour by Aiden O’Brien, putting Phil Parkinson’s side at risk of losing their place in the top three.
But Elliot Lee, so often Wrexham’s hero this season, lashed a wicked strike into the back of the net in the final minute of the 90. It was his ninth goal of the season, extending Wrexham’s unbeaten run to six games in the league and keeping them in touch with Stockport County and Notts County at the top of the table.

Late goals have been a feature of Wrexham’s return to the EFL after 15 years away, with Steven Fletcher’s 95th-minute equaliser against Crewe Alexandra and Jordan Davies’ last-gasp winner against Salford City helping the Red Dragons climb the table in recent weeks.
In a fitting response to Tuesday’s thrilling climax, Deadpool star Reynolds took to social media to say: “Handing out heart attacks since 1864.”
While the late drama is sure to make for entertaining viewing by the time series three of Welcome To Wrexham is released in a year’s time, assistant manager Steve Parkin believes they cannot keep relying on heroics at the death if they are to be promoted this season.
