Tyrell Malacia is yet to feature for Manchester United this season due to injury but his return to training could be a major reprieve for Erik ten Hag

Tyrell Malacia’s return to training could ease the injury headache Erik ten Hag is juggling at Manchester United.

The left-back has yet to feature for the Premier League giants this season due to suffering a knee injury. It’s been a crisis at the position as Luke Shaw has been out of action since August. Ten Hag was forced to bring in Sergio Reguilon on loan from Tottenham in September as well as bringing in Sofyan Amrabat on a temporary deal.

Luckily for the Dutch boss, his compatriot has made a return to first-team training as the club will ease the Netherlands international back into action ahead of a hectic winter schedule. The 24-year-old could be considered for selection by next month, according to the Manchester Evening News.

There were initial fears that Malacia wouldn’t return until 2024 – which would have ruled him out in games against Chelsea, Liverpool and Newcastle as well as the entirety of the club’s Champions League group stage. The Dutchman joined United in July 2022 and made 39 appearances in all competitions as he won the EFL Cup in his debut season.

United take on Copenhagen on Tuesday (October 24) evening in Europe where Ten Hag will have to do without the likes of Lisandro Martinez, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Kobbie Mainoo, and Casemiro with the Brazilian midfielder banned after getting sent off in their last European clash against Galatasaray.
