Sources: Fulham advance on talks to agree Marco Silva deal after Saudi offer rejected

Fulham are advancing in talks with manager Marco Silva over a new deal, sources have told Football Insider.

The 45-year-old is rated highly at Craven Cottage but only has one year remaining on his contract with the London club.

There was concern at Fulham about a mega-money offer from a Saudi Arabian club, but Football Insider understands that Silva has turned down the proposal.

The Cottagers are now optimistic about tying Silva down to a new deal and are growing in confidence that he will be in charge of the side for the upcoming 2023/24 season.

Talks are set to continue between the two parties, with Silva’s future a key part of Fulham’s contract negotiations for the club’s star players.

Silva joined Fulham on a three-year deal in the summer of 2021 following the club’s relegation from the Premier League.

In his first season in charge, Fulham achieved promotion back to the Premier League, winning the Championship title ahead of Bournemouth.

As a result of his success, Silva was named the Championship Manager of the Year for the 2021/22 season.

Having taken Fulham back to the top flight of English football, Silva then achieved an unlikely 10th-placed finish in the 2022/23 Premier League campaign.

The Portuguese boss currently boasts a 50 per cent win rate during his time in charge of the Cottagers, winning 47 and drawing 18 of his 94 matches in charge of the club.

Prior to his spell at Fulham, Silva has spent time in charge of Everton, Watford, Hull City, Olympiacos, Sporting Lisbon and Estoril – the club where he ended his playing career.
