Fulham manager Marco Silva is our early favourite for Premier League manager of 2022

A “world-class player” and “exceptional” person, the Fulham player is encouraged to overcome obstacles.

Leo Bonatini, a former teammate of Raul Jimenez’s at Wolves, has defended the Mexican forward, saying he is “world-class.”

In a recent conversation with Record from Mexico, Bonatini endorsed the striker.

Jimenez joined Fulham this summer in a €6.4 million transfer from Wolves as they looked to fill some of the vacuum left by the loss of Aleksandr Mitrovic.

He was hoping the move to Craven Cottage could provide his career with the kickstart it needs after a difficult season for him with Wolves and Mexico last year.

He’s been struggling to recapture his old form since returning from the fractured skull he suffered against Arsenal in 2020 and is yet to get off the mark for Fulham this season in seven games despite Marco Silva offering him a starting role and plenty of faith.

The Portuguese boss has been keen to praise and support his striker at any given opportunity, intent to keep his spirits up and back him amid growing concern and criticism.

The hope is that he will be back among the goals before too long and Bonatini seemingly believes he will be, insisting his former teammate is world class.

“He is an exceptional player,” he said.

“When he arrived, we were very happy to have a player like him in the squad. We didn’t talk much because I was a bit more shy, he didn’t talk much either, but he’s a very good person and so is his dad.”
