Fulham plot summer move for Rodrigo Moreno
Fulham are open to signing Rodrigo Moreno in the close season as Marco Silva wants a new striker to his attacking setup.
According to Football Insider, Fulham want to sign Rodrigo Moreno from relegated Leeds United. Marco Silva might consider the Spaniard an ideal addition to his attacking setup, but his £100,000-a-week wages could interrupt the
move.
Leeds United had few players who did not drop their performance levels in what was otherwise a torrid season. The Elland Road outfits’ three-year stay in the Premier League ended with their relegation back to the Championship, which could see a few key stars leave.
Wilfried Gnonto is one star with many clubs interested, while there’s also admiration for Rodrigo Moreno. The £100,000-a-week Spanish international remains among their highest-paid stars, but the relegation might have seen a massive drop in his wages.
Many current Leeds stars will look for a way out of the club and possibly want to keep playing in the top flight. Real Madrid were reportedly offered the chance to sign Rodrigo, but that may seem unlikely, given he may not fit the profile needed to replace Karim Benzema.
However, there are chances of a return to the Premier League, with few clubs keeping an eye on the Spanish international. Fulham are thought to be one of them, with Marco Silva keen to add a new forward and flush out a few of his fringe stars. Carlos Vinicius and Rodrigo Muniz could depart as the manager seeks to keep Aleksandr Mitrovic as his main frontman.
Before Rodrigo fell on their radar, Silva was keen on Viktor Gyokeres. Any move for the Coventry star seems unlikely now, considering Sporting CP are closing in on the move. Hence, the Leeds star has emerged, but his £100,000-a-week salary could prove problematic for Fulham
They will likely offer less in terms of wages, which may prove more considering the pay cut at Leeds following the relegation. Hence, Rodrigo might have a choice to remain in the Premier League, and he offers more in the attacking third than just a normal striker.
Fulham have already lost Willian and Manor Solomon in this window, and there’s a clear need for depth in the wide areas. The Spanish international can become an option to cover in the wings, although Silva continues to try to sign proper wingers.
Overall, a move to Craven Cottage could suit all parties, although Leeds United would seek a decent transfer fee in return. He could bring in goals, as seen last season when Rodrigo scored 15 and assisted 5 times in 35 appearancesacross all competitions.
