Green Bay Packers: $60 Million Signing Expected To Occur In Immediate Future

The Green Bay Packers made one thing clear during the 2023 off-season: they are committed to the future.  Whether that future is successful or not remains to be seen.  The amount of youth on the Packers roster, specifically on offense, made it clear that there is a new era in Green Bay.

Jordan Love has been at the center of that youth.  The fourth-year quarterback has sat behind legendary quarterback Aaron Rodgers for three years.  However, he is only under contract with the Packers through the 2024 season.  That could change in the very immediate future.

The Green Bay Packers Are Predicted To Commit $60 Million To Quarterback Jordan Love

Charles LeClaire provided an in-depth breakdown of what a Jordan Love extension would look like:

The Packers have Love under contract through 2024, and that’s a big difference because Daniel Jones and Geno Smith were both slated to be free agents. That helps Green Bay in two ways. First, it gives them flexibility to structure a better contract, as Love will make $6 million in 2024. Second, it gives them leverage because they are not forced to extend him, so they will if it’s a reasonable negotiation.

Getting Geno Smith’s contract as a parameter and adding a couple of millions because of cap inflation, it’s possible that the Packers and Love would agree to something like two years and $60 million.

Love would say that he got $30 million per season, which is a fair mid-level quarterback contract — and life-altering money for a player that has made less than $20 million so far in the league.

For the Packers, it would be a three-year, $66 million contract, a de facto $22 million yearly average without significant guarantees beyond 2024.

Will The Packers Commit To Love Beyond 2024?

No matter what the Packers’ record is at the end of the season, I would be shocked if they gave up on Love after one (or two) seasons starting.  He has grown significantly in the coaching staff’s eyes during his time on the team.  At the end of his first season, the team wasn’t expecting a Super Bowl victory, only enough to commit beyond his current contract. Of course, winning the Super Bowl is every team’s goal heading into the season, however, being realistic is also part of the process.Nov 12, 2023; Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA; Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur walks the sidelines against the Pittsburgh Steelers during the third quarter at Acrisure Stadium. Three years after taking over the starting job, Aaron Rodgers led the Packers to a Super Bowl victory.  Love will likely be given at least that long to prove he is capable of becoming “the guy” in Green Bay.  A number of weapons around Love’s age have been added to the Packers’ arsenal.  In the coming years, the front office hopes all of these weapons will grow alongside Love and form an elite offensive unit.  There is no point in giving up on that growth after one or even two years.
