Spurs and Leicester reach verbal agreement for James Maddison transfer

Romano has confirmed that the two clubs have reached an agreement over the figure it will take to bolster Tottenham’s creativity which has been severely lacking since the departure of Christian Eriksen to Inter Milan in January 2020.

Maddison has already agreed personal terms with Ange Postecoglou’s side and a medical is scheduled to take place soon.

Tottenham have been moving quickly during the summer transfer window having already secured the services of Dejan Kulusevski on a permanent transfer from Juventus following his loan spell and followed it up with today’s confirmation that goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario has joined the club from Empoli on a five-year contract.

Romano wrote on Twitter: “Tottenham are now closing in on James Maddison deal, here we go soon! Verbal agreement in place on £40m fee — final details on add ons/payment structure then… signed.

“Daniel Levy, on it with #LCFC. Personal terms are 100% agreed. Medical to be scheduled soon.”

With two signings already in the bag, this is certainly encouraging for Tottenham fans to see the club are moving fast to secure the services of Maddison, especially with Newcastle having been sniffing around him for the best part of half a year.

£40m is a very good price for a full England international and Spurs have certainly used the fact Leicester are in a weaker negotiating position following their relegation from the Premier League as well as Maddison having just one year left on his contract.
