Massive blow for Stoke City as injury forces Premier League club to recall loan star

The latest Stoke City news from Stoke-on-Trent Live as the Potters suffer a major transfer blow

Stoke City have been dealt a major blow after goalkeeper Mark Travers was recalled from his loan spell by Bournemouth with immediate effect.

The Republic of Ireland international goalkeeper returns to the south coast after the Cherries had their application to recall due to exceptional circumstances approved by the Premier League, following injuries to two of their registered goalkeepers, including first choice keeper Neto.

Travers featured in 14 matches for the Potters during his three-month stay at the bet365 Stadium and became a key performer in Alex Neil’s team.

“Firstly, we would like to thank Mark for his contribution during his time as a Stoke City player, during which his performances have shown his Premier League calibre,” said technical director Ricky Martin.

“There is always potential risk of this outcome in the most exceptional circumstances and, while unfortunate, we knew that should this situation arise we would have an experienced option to call upon in Jack Bonham.

“Jack has played over 200 league games and we have every confidence in his ability to play an important role in a successful Championship team.”

Bonham is set to come into the side when Stoke go to one of the Championship’s form teams in Middlesbrough this weekend.
