Hughes Rejoins Walsall Wood
Walsall Wood have announced that defender Matty Hughes has returned to the club from Redditch United.
Hughes left the Wood to join Southern Premier Division Central side Redditch United in July 2023.
Last season, Hughes featured in all 38 games in the Walsall Wood’s Midland League Premier Division campaign and scored 5 goals as his side secured promotion to the Northern Premier League.
His return will be a boost to Harry Harris’ side who currently find themselves in 14th place with just two wins under their belt.
Hughes will go into contention for their next fixture in the league away at Loughborough Dynamo this Saturday.

Taylor Allen speaks to Saddlers Shout
The latest edition of Saddlers Shout will be available at Saturday’s match against AFC Wimbledon.
Supporters can pick up a copy around the ground, at the Club Shop or at the Ticket Office on matchday.
Taylor Allen sat down for an exclusive interview in Saddlers Shout where he discussed his new left centre-back role and his thoughts on the season so far.
Here is a snippet of our chat with the 23-year-old.
Taylor, thanks for joining us. The team will be looking to bounce back against AFC Wimbledon after last weekend’s setback at Swindon. How do you reflect on that game?
“We were against a good side in Swindon who are in good form. It’s a tough place to go but we went there with good confidence. It wasn’t meant to be on the day but in the previous three games, we’ve got to grips with each other, we know what we expect from each other and I think it’s been showing in the games.”
The team did pick up their first away win since January against Salford. Did that feel like a weight was lifted off your shoulders?
“We all knew about it but our main focus was taking each game as it comes. We know that Salford was a tough game, we went there and delivered the game plan of what we wanted to do. Saturday wasn’t meant to be against Swindon but we’re still in a good place, we know what we’ve got inside the building and we know that we’ve got enough to put a few wins together and go on a little run.”
The squad have dealt with setbacks well this season, responding to disappointing results and the great turnaround against Salford. What’s been the key to that?
“With everything we do, whether we lose, draw or even win, we’re always learning. We’re always finding ways of getting better and everyone in this group wants to learn and wants to get better. The group we’ve got in the changing room is very good, the staff have been very good with us and it’s all about learning and no matter what we do, win, lose or draw, we’re just trying to get better each day.”
