Coventry City guy responds to Liam Delap altercation and violent conduct claim: “It doesn’t look great.”
Sky Blues defender Luis Binks describes the abrupt conclusion to the Hull match in the latest Coventry City news from CoventryLive.

Coventry City defender Luis Binks has laughed off suggestions that he lashed out at Hull forward Liam Delap in the ugly closing stages of last week’s 1-1 draw at the MKM Stadium. Footage on social media appeared to show the Sky Blues centre-back punching the Manchester City loan star as the pair clashed and grappled on the floor, prompting Tigers’ boss Liam Rosenior to remonstrate with the fourth official and get himself in trouble with the referee.

Rosenior was booked after the unsavoury scenes continued involving several players from each side clashing following the off-the-ball incident, minutes after the home side had pulled level with an 87th-minute equaliser to cancel out Coventry’s first-half lead. Footage posted on social media showed Binks getting physical with Delap before being shoved to the ground by Regan Slater.

Asked about the incident, Rosenior said at the time: “I saw my lad get rugby tackled to the floor, held down for ten seconds and there’s even talk of violent conduct. I have not seen it back but that’s what I’m saying, that I’m seeing that.”

Explaining what happened, Binks told CoventryLive: “Yeah, I think it was me and Delap on the halfway line. And he’s come into me and pinned me and I put my arms between his arms. And I thought if the ball goes into me, I’m sort of stuck. So I’ve learnt into him and he’s gone down and I’ve gone down on top of him and then my arms are stuck under him.

“And I think at the time Hull were counter attacking so he’s kept me on the floor with him because obviously he didn’t want me to get back. And then my arms are stuck under him and I think as the ball goes out to a player or whatever, I couldn’t even see the ball. I’ve tried to pull away but he’s still got me.

“And like you say, the footage doesn’t look great. But as I’ve tried to pull my arm away it looks like I’ve done him, but I didn’t do him. And then afterwards I’ve run back into position and he was laughing and I’ve gone, ‘I don’t know how you ain’t got booked,’ and he said, ‘no, neither do I.’ So I think he knows what happened. I know what happened but yeah, the footage doesn’t look great. And a lot of people were talking but yeah, there was nothing in it really
