READ MORE:Tyrhys Dolan is a young man with a smile back on his face.
But that’s not always been the case over recent weeks.
The 21-year-old admits he has struggled for form during the opening months of the Championship campaign and has sought support from those closest to him after going through some tough times.
But after scoring his first goal of the season in Saturday’s 4-0 victory over Queens Park Rangers, Dolan believes he is in a much better place now, both on and off the pitch.
The attacking ace says that opening up and having honest conversations about his problems proved extremely beneficial – an important message on World Mental Health Day – and paid thanks to his friends, family and team-mates for sticking by him and helping him to get back on track.
“To be honest, since my debut, this has been the most difficult time that I’ve ever gone through,” he told RoversTV after the game at Loftus Road.
“Emotionally and football-wise, it has been really tough.
“I’ve had a lot of conversations with myself and with my family, just trying to get myself back to the happy person I was playing football. As of recently, I felt that coming back.
“So hopefully now I can kick on and you can see the best of me.
“Keeping the right people around me, getting the right advice that I’ve needed and just being honest is what’s helped. I’ve spoken to friends and family and I’ve told them that I’ve been struggling a little bit.
“I’ve not been where I’m at. I’ve been honest with myself, knowing that this isn’t my standard.
“I know that I’m a lot better than this, but I just need to keep working hard and keep doing the right things and it will work out because I know I’m a good player and hopefully we start seeing more of it.
“Before the game (against QPR) I felt confident. I thought this was the game where I turn it around. My past few performances I think have been a lot better, but I know that I’ve got so much more to give.
“Today (QPR) is nowhere near as good as I know it can still be. There’s so much more that I can give and I want to go out and play well for my family, for my team-mates, for everyone really and for myself.”
