James Maddison shares what Ange Postecoglou told Tottenham’s players in the changing room after Fulham win

James Maddison has shared what Ange Postecoglou told Tottenham Hotspur’s players in the changing room after last night’s win over Fulham.

Maddison spoke to Spurs Play after scoring his first goal at Tottenham’s stadium and helping them to a 2-0 win over Marco Silva’s side.

Spurs deservedly headed into the break 1-0 up after Son Heung-min produced an exceptional finish in the first half.

Maddison then linked up with Son to double Tottenham’s advantage just 10 minutes into the second half.

But Spurs put in a lacklustre display after Maddison’s goal and it’s fair to say that Ange Postecoglou wasn’t impressed with his player

Speaking to Spurs Play, Maddison was asked about Postecoglou’s reaction to their second-half display.

“It was kind of the same to be fair,” he said. “Obviously buzzing to win the game, get in the changing room and the gaffer is not happy at all.

“But he just felt the second-half performance was a bit off, a bit complacent, a bit sloppy. It’s just a reality check. But that’s him, that’s his mentality and that’s probably why he’s won everywhere he’s been.

“We’ll take that on board. But listen, even in them moments when we’re not at our best, we still had some big moments as well.

“Scored in the second half, created some chances and overall I think we’ll all be happy with that.”

Last night’s win saw Tottenham move back above the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City to the top of the table. But it’s an encouraging sign for Spurs that Postecoglou wasn’t satisfied with the performance.

Spurs were exceptional off the ball last night and both of their goals came from their desire to press high.

But Postecoglou made a great point after the game that his side took their foot off the gas after going 2-0 up.

Tottenham were sloppy on the ball in the second half and presented Fulham with some decent opportunities.

Nevertheless, Spurs still deserved to pick up the three points on the night and it’s exciting for Tottenham fans that there is plenty more to come from this young side.
