The New York Jets tried to reunite Aaron Rodgers with Davante Adams ahead of the trade deadline on Tuesday, only to get rejected by the Las Vegas Raiders, according to ESPN.
The Jets wanted to add another dimension to its wide receiving department to boost its offense this season, showing clear intent that they’re still trying to win this season with Zach Wilson as their quarterback, after Rodgers’ season-ending Achilles injury.
The Jets front office long debated a move for Adams, as they assessed the option throughout the summer, waiting for the right moment to call Las Vegas about its inquiry on the three-time All-Pro.
But, the landscape has changed in Sin City since the Raiders lost to the Lions on Monday Night Football, with owner Mark Davis firing both, former head coach Josh McDaniels and general manager Dave Ziegler later in the week.
A source even told ESPN that there ‘was no chance in hell’ that the Raiders would send their six-time Pro Bowler away, despite what seems to be a chaotic time for the franchise.
Now, Adams will gear up to face his latest suitor in about a week, as the NFL rejected to opt of of the November 12 prime-time Jets-Raiders game.
Adams, who previously questioned the Raiders’ ambitions on multiple occasions this year and the last, said ‘it was time’ for the organization to make ‘some sort of change’ and that he wants to ‘try to make this work and do everything I can to keep it going now.’
