Everton are among the clubs to have been linked with a move for out-of-favour Manchester City star Kalvin Phillips, but it may not be possible in January.

Phillips has struggled for fitness and form since joining City from Leeds United last year, and recent reports have linked Everton with a loan move in January for the 27-year-old.

However, it now appears that Phillips wants to stay and fight for his place under Pep Guardiola. Journalist Ben Jacobs has revealed that a return to Leeds looks highly unlikely for the midfielder, and even a move to Everton may not happen if the player does not want to leave.

Ben Jacobs gives update on Phillips

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Jacobs claimed that people close to Phillips believe that he wants to stay at the Etihad Stadium.

“Those close to the player are still saying that he wants to fight for his place at Manchester City,” Jacobs claimed.

“Leeds would not even necessarily have the budget to sign Phillips back unless Manchester City were prepared to do some kind of loan deal.

“I think that people will always make links with an out-of-favour player and their old club. We got this with Harry Maguire to an extent, where there was a period when some were saying a Leicester City return might be possible, and it wasn’t.
