Blackburn Rovers interested in National League South attacker, reporter claims
Blackburn Rovers are interested in a potential move for Welling United attacker Ollie Godziemski, reports Alan Nixon.
Blackburn Rovers are said to have identified the non-league youngster as a potential addition in this transfer window ahead of the start of the new season this weekend
Godziemski, 17, is being tipped for a bright future in the game and Welling could face a battle to keep hold of him amid reported interest from higher up the football pyramid.
According to reporter Nixon on his Patreon, Rovers are ‘looking’ at the possibility of luring him up to Ewood Park this summer.
One for the future at Blackburn
Godziemski could be seen as a useful long-term option by Blackburn and someone that would grow and develop with them down the line, with a view to breaking into the first-team in the future.
The teenager impressed with Welling in the Youth Cup in the last campaign with some eye-catching performances. Their first-team operates in the sixth tier and finished 16th out of 24th.
Rovers have given young players a chance over recent times and have seen the likes of Joe Rankin-Costello, Lewis Travis, John Buckley, Scott Wharton and more recently Adam Wharton break into their senior squad. That means that there certainly would be a pathway for potential young recruits like Godziemski to work their way up.
Jon Dahl Tomasson is preparing for his second campaign in charge in Lancashire and his side just missed out on the play-offs last term. They will be aiming for the top six next time around again and have been patient with their recruitment so far this summer.
Blackburn have brought in striker Niall Ennis from Plymouth Argyle, attacking midfielder Arnor Sigurdsson from CSKA Moscow and midfielder Sondre Tronstad from Vitesse.
