Bournemouth believe they triggered midfielder Tyler Adams’ release clause after lodging a bid worth £20million earlier this week, only for Leeds to disagree, according to reports.
Adams’ contract featured a time-limited relegation clause, it is believed, after he signed a new deal last summer before the club slipped back into the Championship.
He was widely expected to move on from Elland Road and looked to have found his next destination on the south coast, only for the potential switch to hit the buffers
The Athletic have claimed that when the Cherries made their surprise offer for Adams on Monday, his release clause had still been in place.
However, Leeds maintain the clause was not triggered and that it has since expired
As a result, Adams’ future may well remain with his current employers given there has been no agreement between Bournemouth and their target on personal terms.
Adams made 26 appearances across all competitions last season but missed Leeds’ first two Championship fixtures this campaign due to a hamstring injury.
Should Bournemouth reignite their push for the USA international, his move would be dependent on a medical, where his current setback would be scrutinised in detail.
Chelsea were previously close to wrapping up a deal for Adams, only for the move to collapse despite both clubs agreeing a fee after the Blues matched his clause.
Mail Sport first revealed that Bournemouth were interested in swooping for Adams even with the 24-year-old currently ruled out for several weeks.
Adams picked up the problem during the latter stages of last season, having gone down in a training session in March and undergone surgery to correct the issue.
Andoni Iraola’s side began their Premier League campaign with a 1-1 draw with West Ham, after Dominic Solanke cancelled out Jarrod Bowen’s superb opener.
The club have so far signed seven new players this summer, with ambitious owner Bill Foley continuing to splash the cash after also investing heavily during the winter window.
Alex Scott, Max Aarons, Romain Faivre, Justin Kluivert, Hamed Traore, Milos Kerkez and Ionut Radu have all arrived to strengthen Iraola’s squad at the Vitality Stadium.
Mail Sport understands the club are actively working to recruit a new midfielder, though, having seen a move for Fiorentina’s Gaetano Castrovilli fall through.
They return to action against Liverpool this weekend.
