Cardiff City transfer news as more signings in next 48 hours, Watford lead race for £2m striker and coach lands new job
The latest Bluebirds news from Cardiff City Stadium
The Bluebirds have added six players to their squad, which has improved the group from last year, and are set to add two to three more before the end of the window.
However, Erol Bulut has stated at least one will come in before Wednesday night’s Carabao Cup clash against Colchester United. Goalkeeper, centre-back, central midfield and striker are all potential positions City are monitoring.
Watford lead Kaba race
Watford are leading the race to sign Sory Kaba for £2million, according to The Telegraph.
A host of clubs are said to be interested in the FC Midtjylland striker, who netted eight goals in 17 games for the Bluebirds on loan last season.
Cardiff were thought to be interested in getting the striker back, but under the terms of their embargo they are unable to pay fees for players.
It is now claimed the Hornets, against whom Kaba scored a fantastic bicycle kick last season, are closing in on signing the player for £2million.
U18s boss gets Cymru Premier gig
Cardiff City’s under-18s manager Steve Jenkins has been appointed head coach of Cymru Premier side Barry Town United.
Gavin Chesterfield left Barry to take up his job as Cardiff’s academy manager, with Lee Kendall taking over the role from him. However, it was announced that Kendall would leave his post and Jenkins has been announced as Barry’s new boss, vacating his position with the Bluebirds as a result.
“Barry Town United are delighted to announce Steve Jenkins as our new first team manager,” they wrote on social media. “Jenkins met the squad on Thursday and was in the stands observing today’s game (a 2-1 loss to Aberystwyth).
“He will take charge of his first training session on Tuesday evening ahead of our JD Cymru Premier opener away to Bala Town on Saturday.”
Jonny Barnett, director of football at Jenner Park, said: “We’re delighted to have appointed Steve and feel he is the perfect fit for our club.
“He brings great experience both in management, coaching and player development and it has been evident in all our conversations that our values and visions align.”
Cardiff are already advertising for a new under-18s boss.
Ashford bangs in four in Haverfordwest rout
Cian Ashford once again starred for Cardiff City under-21s in their second-round Nathaniel MG Cup win over Haverfordwest County yesterday.
Ashford was one of the stars in the first round, the win over Cambrian & Clydach, and was named in the team of the round. And he will almost certainly get that accolade again after hammering in all four goals in the 4-0 win over the Pembrokeshire side. Haverfordwest did have to field a weaker team due to their players having played in Europe against B36 Torshavn on August 3.
Nevertheless, City fans will hope Ashford can continue on this trajectory this season, having endured an injury-hit campaign last term.
He is undoubtedly one of the bright up-and-comers at City and will catch the eye of Erol Bulut and Co if he continues to put in such outstanding performances.
Eli King made a fantastic start to life in League Two with Morecambe, registering an assist in their 2-1 win over Walsall.
In their League Two opener, King picked up the ball in midfield and drove towards the box before feeding a pinpoint pass to Adam Mayor, who slotted home the opener.
King played 90 minutes for his new club, with whom he has signed a season-long loan, and was rated the second best player for Morecambe on WhoScored, who rated him 7.46 out of 10.
