“I have made this very clear” – Tottenham player speaks out after losing starting Spurs spot under Postecoglou
As Pierre-Emile Højbjerg today held a press conference with at Denmark’s national team campaign, he was asked to talk a little about his time at Tottenham Hotspur.
With only 156 minutes played for Spurs this season, he has clearly lost his place under Ange Postecoglou, and is still to start any Premier League matches with the new coach.
Quoted by Bold, Højbjerg didn’t have any problems talking about the situation, and claimed he shall continue to respect the Tottenham boss.
“I follow the path of the coach and the team, and fortunately there has been a good tone throughout, and as such there has been no problem from some of the sides,” said Højbjerg.
“Fortunately, there is a great understanding that the only thing that is important are the tasks that lie ahead for the team and the club.”
The player also highlighted the good communication there is between him and the coaching staff, and claims he’ll continue to work to recover his place in the team.
“There has been a good dialogue throughout, and there has been great respect for both parties. In the end, the most important thing, and I have made this very clear to the coach and the club, is that I have to show my best side and deserve what I get from playing time.”
“Right now I am not among the starting XI. It is what it is. I try to show my best side if the coach points to me.”
Likely to start for Denmark, Højbjerg is set to face San Marino and Finland in their upcoming games, both being very important challenges for their qualification to the Euro.
Once he returns to Tottenham, it will then be time to prepare for the match against Sheffield United on the 16th of September.
Spurs have had a great start in the league and that’s a new chance to potentially get a place on top of the table.
