Vitor Roque’s agent has claimed that Manchester United and Tottenham made bids of close to €100million (£85million) for the forward only for him to sign for Barcelona instead.

The highly rated 18-year-old, who currently plays for Athletico Paranaense, will join Barcelona ahead of the 2024-25 season.

Roque ended up signing for Barcelona, where he will have a release clause of €500million

Roque’s buyout clause at Barcelona is set to be €500million (£428miillion), while his contract will run until 2031.

He will join for an initial fee of £26million but it could rise as high as £52million if the prospect finishes in the Ballon d’Or top three an achieves other performance related add-ons relating to goals and trophies.

United and Tottenham had both been monitoring Roque and according to his agent Andre Cury both clubs made significant offers for the player.

Speaking on the Charla Podcast, Cury said: ‘We received much bigger offers from Tottenham and Manchester United for Vitor Roque. It was over €100 million. But his career plan is well mapped out and we opted for Barcelona. The moment is not to look at the money but the career.’
