Ryan Reynolds pays classy Wrexham tribute to ‘one and only’ star Wrexham’s famous chairmen Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney did not hold back when congratulating prolific goalscorer Rosie Hughes after she reached another major milestone in her career

Hollywood superstar Ryan Reynolds has hailed the efforts of prolific goalscorer Rosie Hughes after she hit a special landmark in her Wrexham career.

The North Wales outfit’s world-famous chairman has made no secret of his admiration for the talents of the forward since she first signed in 2021. Staggeringly, the Colwyn Bay-born striker already has 100 strikes to her name in just 31 games – equalling an average of just over three per outing.

Remarkably, she hit 42 goals in just 18 games last term as the Red Dragons gained promotion to the Adran Premier in a bumper year for the club. Hughes inevitably was named the team’s Player of the Season in a campaign that would end with the team celebrating their achievements via an open-top bus parade around the town.

Now Wrexham’s co-owner Reynolds has spoken glowingly about the forward, who completed a century of strikes during a 3-1 victory against the New Saints. The crucial derby victory moved her team into third in the table and the the ‘Deadpool’ actor could not hide his delight. As Wrexham’s official Instagram account marked her 100th goal in the club’s colours, he would re-post an graphic of Hughes, along with the caption: “The one and only,” with co-chairman Rob McElhenney following suit on Twitter as he simply added: “”Absolute boss.”

The 27-year-old’s latest goal was her 10th of the season so far, with her striker either side of a Carra Jones brace, giving the Dragons a fourth win of the campaign so far. Speaking to the club’s YouTube channel after the game, she was clearly beaming after hitting a major milestone for the team.

She said: “What a way to get my 100th goal. It’s not a classic Rosie Hughes goal. I think it came from Carra [Jones]. As soon as I struck it, I know, phwoar, that was a great shot and then I had to watch it, because it was going straight towards the keeper and it kind of went over the top of her in the back of the net.

“So, very pleased and very happy and happy that we’ve also won as well, Hughes admitted, before expressing her thanks to her teammates for their efforts, adding: “It’s our first home victory and it’s also the first time we’ve played here at 2 o’clock instead of a later kick-off Sunny at the beginning, so it was hot and then it started raining. So, yeah, it was brilliant, great. I’m so happy as well for some people who have started that don’t usually.”

Hughes has garnered something of a cult following in recent times, having featured previously on the hit ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ FX docuseries. Employed semi-professionally at Wrexham, the former Llandudno player also serves as a prison officer at HMP Berwyn in North Wales.
