Unai Emery reveals his two 'dreams' as manager of Aston Villa and insists he wants to stay for the long term as he gears up for debut against Manchester United | talkSPORT

‘Unbelievable’ Newcastle target could now be tempted to sign for Aston Villa instead

Newcastle United are interested in signing Harvey Barnes this summer, but face competition from Aston Villa.

The Magpies are back on the trail of Barnes, having initially gone off a deal for the Leicester City winger early last month.

But now Eddie Howe is keen again, with the Toon boss interested in signing a new left winger.

Barnes is considered a low-risk signing, and that is why he has multiple Premier League clubs chasing his signature. As well as Newcastle, Aston Villa, Tottenham and West Ham are also keen.

The 25-year-old has some strong options to choose from, but a new report has explained why it is Unai Emery’s side that might be able to win the race to sign him.

Why Aston Villa transfer is appealing to Harvey Barnes

According to Leicestershire Live, a transfer to Aston Villa appeals to Barnes. They state that is because he would not have to relocate his family, while they can offer European football. Villa are set to compete in the Europa Conference League after coming eighth last season.

In contrast, Newcastle can offer Barnes Champions League football, which is something he has never experienced in his career so far. That could potentially give the Magpies an edge, although they do not have the geographical luxuries that Aston Villa can provide.

It will come down to what Barnes’ priorities are. If the ‘unbelievable‘ winger wants to do what James Maddison has done and move to London then it will be a toss up between West Ham and Spurs. If he wants to keep his family where they are then Aston Villa will be the frontrunners.

But if he wants to test himself in Europe’s elite competition and join a young and hungry squad that is only going to get better then his decision has to be Newcastle.
