Lopetegui reveals what attracted him to Wolves; insists he is 'not thinking about the table'

Adama Traore is officially no longer a Wolves player.

The Spain international’s time at Molineux is up, with his deal expiring at the end of June.

Traore could technically still sign a contract with Wolves.

But the club have presented multiple offers to the player and there hArsenal FC v Wolverhampton Wanderers - Premier League

And it is seemingly not about money, because Wolves have previously offered the winger £100,000-a-week to stay.

Some Wolves fans are gutted to see Traore go. Without doubt, he is one of the most unique footballers in the game today.

How do you replace someone like him? Can you even?

Well Wanderers may actually already have someone on their books capable of making the fans forget all about Traore.

Chiquinho can be Wolves’ Adama Traore replacement

One year ago, Wolves fans got word of a terrible injury suffered by Chiquinho.

The youngster had signed for Wolves in January from Estoril for just £3 million, and put in a string of exciting cameo performances at the end of 2021/22.

Fans were seriously excited to see Chiquinho play more in 2022/23

But he was robbed of the chance to do so when he picked up a serious knee injury in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Burnley.

Chiquinho has been back in training for a while now for Wolves.

Some wondered if he would actually get some minutes at the end of last season, especially since Julen Lopetegui had included him in his updated Premier League squad.

But he wasn’t quite ready.

But Chiquinho is now back for Wolves, and got minutes in yesterday’s pre-season friendly against Vitoria.

And he provided a brilliant assist for young Owen Farmer to score.

He showed fantastic pace to latch onto a ball down the wing, before playing a perfect ball across.

It was the kind of play that we saw far less often than we should have from Traore.

The main criticism of the Spaniard was always about his end product.

With the limited time Chiquinho has had on the pitch for Wolves, he has certainly shown that he can deliver in the final third.

So potentially, he really could make a fine replacement for Traore and actually may end up even being an upgrade in the future.
