Premier League to confirm key decision that will impact Newcastle United, Everton, Aston Villa and more

There could be some major changes for Newcastle United and their Premier League rivals announced by the end of the year.

Newcastle United’s fixture list for the current season has already been severely impacted by decisions taken by broadcasting companies.

Of the Magpies first 12 fixtures in all competitions, only two have not been selected for live broadcast by the likes of Sky Sports and TNT Sports, meaning major disruption for supporters across the first two months of the campaign.

However, a move by the Premier League could mean even more pain for home and away supporters after they revealed 270 games will be broadcast live on television and via streaming services from the start of the 2025/26 season – an increase of 70 on current broadcasting agreements.

The move comes as the Premier League prepares to put their broadcasting rights up for tender and supporters should know more about what could lie ahead by the end of the year when the process is expected to come to a conclusion. As it stands, Sky, TNT Sports and Amazon Prime hold broadcasting rights to live coverage of Premier League fixtures across their various channels – but a number of streaming platforms are expected to enter the race to secure live fixtures when the tender process gets underway.

The move to increase the number of live fixtures has brought criticism from the Football Supporters Association, who stressed the Premier League ‘don’t seem to care’ about the impact on match-going supporters.

In a statement released last week, they said: “This new deal will have a huge impact on the number of Saturday 3pm kick-offs, especially those involving clubs competing in Europe, with top-flight weekends often consisting of only one or two Saturday 3pm fixtures and as many as six Sunday games.
