49ers vs. Vikings Injury Report: Deebo Samuel to miss 2 games with hairline fracture; Christian McCaffrey questionable; Trent Williams doubtful

The San Francisco 49ers are preparing for their Week 7 contest against the Minnesota Vikings on Monday at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan revealed that Deebo Samuel has been ruled out for the next two games (vs. Vikings and Bengals) due to a hairline fracture in his shoulder. He has not practiced this week and could return to the lineup after the 49ers’ bye week, during a Week 10 contest against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

“Took X-rays and MRIs earlier in the week, didn’t have anything,” Shanahan said. The pain was still there, so we got a CT [scan] the other day and found a hairline fracture. So he’ll be out this game, next game, and we’ll see after the bye week.”

The coach confirmed that the 49ers are not considering placing Samuel on injured reserve.

“We weren’t sure of him throughout the week, so we’ve had contingency plans as it goes, and he’s been banged up the few weeks before that, too,” Shanahan added. “So this will give him a chance to hopefully settle down and come back 100 percent. … Deebo’s a pretty unique player. Not many people are like him in the league, so it does change things up, but we’ve got a bunch of good receivers and a bunch of good running backs.”

Running back Christian McCaffrey made his first appearance in practice this week, aiming to return from an oblique injury suffered in the recent loss to the Cleveland Browns. San Francisco has designated McCaffrey’s status as “questionable” for the Week 7 showdown.

“It was good to have him out there today,” Shanahan said of McCaffrey. “We don’t do anything really full speed except for seven-on, but the fact he was able to go out there today and feel good gives him a chance, and we just got to make sure he can go into that game on Monday and feel real good.”

Tackle Trent Williams is listed as “doubtful” after missing all three practices this week. He suffered an ankle injury early against the Browns but played through the pain.

Linebacker Dre Greenlaw, who missed last weekend’s game due to a hamstring injury, is listed as “questionable” for Monday night’s game. Guard Aaron Banks (ankle) and cornerback Isaiah Oliver (knee) have been cleared to play.
