Leeds United need to muscle Leicester City and Rangers out of the way for 26-y/o attacking midfielder

Leeds United have been linked with a move to sign Fluminense attacker and Colombian international Jhon Arias ahead of the January window.

The Whites will already have one eye on the January window as we enter November, with Gretar Steinsson having his work cut out to ensure that Leeds are in the best place possible to mount a promotion charge in the second half of the season.

Leeds’ gap to the top two needs closing and to do that, signings in the new year could be the boost that Daniel Farke’s side require.

Who have Leeds been linked with?

TEAMtalk reported this week that Leeds are one of a number of British sides that are scouting Colombian international Jhon Arias, currently starring for Fluminense.

The 26-year-old has been in stunning form in 2023 for club and country, managing to register nine goals and 13 assists for the Brazilian outfit in 53 appearances across all competitions.

Alongside Leeds in wanting to sign the attacking midfielder are Rangers, Leicester City, Wolves, Crystal Palace, Burnley and West Ham.

Would you welcome any of the loan players back?

Do Leeds need to pip these clubs to the signature of Arias?

Whether or not Leeds actually act on this scouting mission is another question, but the interest in an attacking midfielder that can also operate just as well on the wing is something Leeds need to be looking at.

It was perhaps one of the only key issues that wasn’t resolved in the summer window, having pulled the plug on bringing in Nadiem Amiri, for the right reasons.

While Joel Piroe is a undoubted goal threat, there have been games this season that have proved that he might not be the out-and-out best option to operate behind Georginio Rutter for every game, so someone more natural to the position is needed.

It would be a real statement of intent for Leeds to bring in a fully fledged international in the position, all while beating Leicester and other significant competition too.
