02/03/21: Grimsby Town (a – L2): 0-1 (Y: 0, R: 0)

He received an average rating of 4.48 following the 2-0 win at home against Fleetwood Town during the 2019/20 season. Some of the comments can be found below:

Impish “How did the Fleetwood guy not get another yellow for deliberately hacking Harry down going through into the box?”

Snats “6. He seemed to lose his bearings a few times but he didn’t make any massive mistakes or affect the result, which is all you can ask for really.”

sedgleyimp “I’ll go for a 5. No major mistakes other than a probable second yellow for their left back when he took down Harry, but I have seen refs being reluctant to give a second yellow in those circumstances before so no great shakes in all honesty. Wasn’t a difficult game to referee.

Stephen Martin oversaw a total of 20 matches during the 2022/23 season, 13 of which were in the Championship. In his 20 matches, he showed 77 yellow cards and 3 red cards. He was most card happy in the Championship match between Bristol City and Sheffield United (0-1) when he showed 8 yellow cards and 1 red card.

So far this season, Martin has refereed 4 matches, showing 23 yellow cards and 1 red card. 8 of his yellow cards this season came in his first match of the season at Brisbane Road when Leyton Orient hosted Cambridge United (2-0).
