The Tigers boss enjoyed an unbeaten September in the Championship

Hull City boss Liam Rosenior has been overlooked for September’s Manager of the Month award with the gong going to Kieran McKenna at in-form Ipswich Town.

Rosenior was nominated earlier this week for the first time in his fledgling managerial career after guiding City to an unbeaten month which included a terrific 1-0 win at league leaders Leicester City before the last international break, the Foxes’ only defeat so far.

City’s nine-point haul also included an impressive 3-1 win at Stoke City in front of the television cameras and successive home draws with Coventry City, Leeds United and Plymouth Argyle, ending the month in fourth place.

McKenna, who oversaw his side beat the Tigers 3-0 at Portman Road took 12 points from his five games as the Tractor Boys continued their momentum since winning promotion from League One, beating off competition from Rosenior, Cardiff manager Erol Bulut and Sunderland’s Tony Mowbray, while in-form Black Cats winger Jack Clarke was the Player of the Month.

Unbeaten in September, Kieran’s team are setting a terrific pace along with Leicester forging an 8-point gap to 3rd place at this very early stage of the season, playing some sublime football with a steely determination,” ex-Barnsley boss and judging panel member Danny Wilson said.

Meanwhile, pundit Don Goodman believes the Tractor Boys possess a special mentality: “Ipswich have continued their incredible start in September and are showing no signs of slowing down any time soon. Kieran McKenna’s side would be in prime position to run away with the league were it not for Leicester who are most likely on the road to a record-breaking points total. “13 points from 15 last month, including an impressive 3-2 win over Cardiff from 2-0 down, has shown that McKenna’s team possess an elite winning mentality alongside all their attacking talent.”
