Mark Kennedy Gives Attacker Injury Update
There could be positive news on the horizon in terms of attacking options, as Mark Kennedy suggested that Danny Mandroiu could be available as early as next weekend against Cheltenham Town.
The Imps are beset by injuries in the attacking third of the pitch, with Ben House, Tyler Walker and Jack Vale all out. Danny may be a choice through the centre, but he, too, has suffered from a tough September.
He was brought off against Shrewsbury, having had to have an injection pre-match, and has only completed 90 minutes once since, against Sheffield United. He was last seen in an Imps shirt during the 1-1 draw with Bristol Rovers on September 2nd.
Imps fans have been left in the dark as to the extent of his injury, but following yesterday’s trip to the south coast, it appears there’s some good news on the horizon.
“He’s injured, but he won’t be out long term,” Mark Kennedy said after the Pompey defeat. “He should be back very, very soon. Whether it’s Monday or after the West Ham game I don’t know yet, but I am expecting him back very soon.”
That’s a further bit of good news to add to the expected arrival of Jack Vale, signed on September 1st. Vale arrived on loan from Blackburn with an injury, something the club were aware of. Unfortunately, we were not aware at the time that Tyler Walker was injured for eight weeks and Ben House for 3-5 months.
The lack of a striker has been a major talking point over the last few weeks, but the return of Mandroiu, as well as the possible rehabilitation of Jack Vale gives Imps fans something to look forward to.
In the meantime, the focus shifts from the league to the League Cup, with European Conference League winners West Ham due to visit Sincil Bank this Wednesday, in the first meeting between the two teams in 41 years.
