Coventry City manager Mark Robins discusses the free transfer option in light of the midfield issue
Sky Blues manager Mark Robins is questioned about the potential of using the free transfer market to address his midfield difficulties in the latest Coventry City transfer news from CoventryLive.
The only method for adding reinforcements outside of the two transfer windows in the summer and January, Mark Robins has historically avoided using the free transfer market.
Many players are currently unemployed because they were unable to find new clubs in the UK or elsewhere in Europe, but managers are frequently hesitant to take a chance on players who may be accustomed to or demand high wages, who will need time to catch up after skipping preseason, and who may also be without a club for a reason.
However, given the Sky Blues’ current issues, including the fact that the team is having trouble adjusting to Gustavo Hamer’s departure in midfield and that the important Ben Sheaf will be out for at least six weeks due to injury, could there be a case for bringing in some seasoned back-up?

Robins responded to CoventryLive, “No, I don’t think so,” yet he continued to leave open the possibility of the free market. “I believe we must make use of what we already have. I believe we can and always will look to see what’s out there, but given the amount of change we’ve had, we need to get everyone in and firing.
“Having an extra body doesn’t always work, so look, we’ll try to use everything at our disposal really, and something out there may just tick a box, but right now we have to work with what we have, the players that we have, because there has been a huge change.
We’ll find a solution, too. We’ll figure it out. It’s just taking a little while, but people must keep in mind that since we didn’t have a preseason to train with everyone, they have only truly been together for a few weeks.
