Green Bay Packers Matt LaFleur Comments On Controversial Lateral Play In Week 10 Loss

Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur had a lot to say at the podium after another close loss on the season. One key part of the game was a controversial lateral play by the Steelers. The refs called it incomplete and even after looking at the play, the call stood. Many fans, and the broadcast analyst, thought that it was a lateral which would have resulted in a Green Bay touchdown by Rashan Gary. LaFleur gave his thoughts on the call after the game.

LaFleur gave about the only answer that he could have. He said it was “pretty clear” to him that it was a backward pass making it a live ball. However, he was careful not to completely throw the officials under the bus. “Somebody else felt differently, so I guess that’s the way it is. I guess I was wrong,” he added. I’ve got a news flash for LaFleur. He wasn’t wrong. After looking at many angles, it was a clear backward pass but the officials blew the play dead which makes it difficult to reverse. It was a rough call and one that would’ve changed the game but ultimately wasn’t the reason they lost the game.

An Opportunity To Win

The Packers had a chance to win the game at the end. That is what any fan wants out of their team. While the team didn’t give up a lot of points, they gave up a lot of yards on the ground. A missed extra point proved critical as the Packers needed a touchdown at the end of the game. Throughout the game, there are little moments that hurt the team immensely.

If there is a big takeaway from today it is that the team looked a lot better. While a loss still stings, this is two weeks in a row where the team has not gone out on the field and looked completely lost. Missed calls by the refs always hurt but the team had opportunities to win. Hopefully, they learn from this and can win some of these games down the road.
