Simon Jordan admits he was ‘absolutely wrong’ in live talkSPORT debate ahead of everton FFP decision

Simon Jordan admitted he was “absolutely wrong” in a live talkSPORT debate with Sam Matter face regarding the upcoming Financial Fair Play case involving Everton.

The Toffees were referred to an independent commission in March for allegedly breaching FFP rules in the 2021-22 campaign, with the case set to be held before an independent panel on 25 October.

The Times reported on 15 June that Everton are confident of beating the charges, which could carry a points deduction in the worst-case scenario, or a hefty financial penalty.

When it was put to Jordan on talkSPORT that Everton could be deducted points, he said [18 October, 12:05]: “They won’t do it. They’ll fine them.”

Host Matterface then implied that nobody has previously been fined for FFP breaches in the Premier League before, which Jordan strongly disagreed with.

However, when it was proved that Matterface was correct, and that the examples Jordan put forward were covered by UEFA charges, the former Crystal Palace chairman said: “I was absolutely wrong.”

One thing after another

If Everton supporters did not have enough to concern themselves with right now, with the club seemingly in a Premier League relegation battle once again and doubts over 777 Partners’ takeover, there is this upcoming hearing to look forward to.

This all centres around the Toffees recording a cumulative loss of £430million over five years up to the end of 2021-22, which is in breach of the Premier League’s FFP rules [BBC Sport].

Clubs relegated at Everton’s expense in the season before last, when a deficit of £44.7m was declared, are thought to be seeking financial damages from the Toffees.

Everton have denied any wrongdoing and will fight their case, arguing that the COVID-19 pandemic was to blame for part of the losses.Simon Jordan reveals he is recovering from prostate cancer after 'significant' surgery - and former Crystal Palace chairman urges men to get tested | Daily Mail Online

Let’s just hope they are successful, or else the punishment – whether a financial one or a points deduction – could seriously damage the club further.

In other Everton news, Sam Allardyce has given his verdict on whether the Toffees can pull off an upset against Liverpool this coming weekend.
