The midfielder has to wait, but he wants to be in the running for his first League Two start for Wrexham on Saturday when Crewe Alexandra comes to The STóK Cae Ras.
Evans, who can also play at centre-back, joined Wrexham from Championship outfit Millwall before the transfer window slammed shut on September 1, putting pen to paper on a two-year deal.
With competition fierce in the squad, and the Reds embarking on an unbeaten run, Evans has had to bide his time and been restricted to appearing as a substitute in all four league games since making the switch to north Wales.
The last of those run-outs off the bench came on Saturday when Wrexham suffered a 5-0 defeat against Stockport County at Edgeley Park.
Phil Parkinson is set to freshen up the side for this weekend’s home game with Crewe after seeing the seven-match unbeaten run in the league come to an end and former England youth international Evans hopes he gets the nod.
“I feel like I have had a good couple of weeks to settle into the group,” said Evans.
“It has been a useful time to get my legs going and used to the way the lads work.
“I am feeling really fit and strong now, and looking forward to putting some really good performances in.
“Hopefully Saturday will be the start of that.
“I want to play regularly and that is what I am here to do.
“To be fair to the lads, they have been winning games and playing well up until Saturday.
“It has been tough to get into the team but I have been biding my time and hopefully it is time for me to push on now.”
Evans, a product of Manchester City’s youth academy, has also played in the Championship for Reading and Derby as well as Millwall.
Although he is still waiting to make his first league start for Wrexham, the utility player lined up in defence for the 1-0 EFL Trophy win against Newcastle United under 21s earlier this month and will happily play as a centre-back if required.
“I don’t have any preference to be fair,” said Evans.
“Wherever I get put on the pitch is where I will play.
“If it is in midfield, fantastic, but if I am needed to do a job at the back then that is absolutely fine too.
“I just want to play as many games as I can now and anywhere the gaffer sees me fit to play, I will do the job.”
The loss at Stockport was Wrexham’s heaviest defeat under Parkinson who was appointed manager in July 2021 and Evans says the players are eager to prove it was a one-off.
“It is a strong group and we have had some really strong performances, although Saturday wasn’t the best,” he said.
“Things like that happen in football, we will look to bounce back and make sure that was just a one-off for us.
“We had been on a good run and we want to make sure that doesn’t happen again.
“Now it is up to us to go and put that right.
“It starts on the training pitch, we have been working hard and we have got to take that into the game on Saturday, and make sure we go and turn it
