When Ruben Vinagre made his Hull City home debut in the Championship against Coventry City on Friday night when football returned from the international break, he experienced the MKM Stadium atmosphere for the first time. Tonight, things will pick up a notch or two.
The Tigers maintained their unbeaten home start after being held to a 1-1 draw by last season’s defeated play-off finalists, but Leeds United’s visit to East Yorkshire will put that record to the test.
Since a game City fans would want to forget at the end of February 2020, this will be the first Yorkshire derby between the two teams, and Vinagre is looking forward to the occasion in front of what is anticipated to be an almost sold-out crowd.

Vinagre, who played the first half of Friday’s match before being substituted by Rosenior for the second half, is no stranger to intense rivalries; during his time at Molineux, he participated in one involving Wolves and Aston Villa.
The 24-year-old is quick to dismiss the cliché used by football players that it is just another game, but there was no denying his excitement for a matchup against a team that was competing in the Premier League only a few months prior.
It’s a big game, he said, according to Hull Live. “Two powerful squads desire victory. When we play at home, we have to be in complete control and give it our all. I want to participate in these games, just like every other player, because the environment is unique and it is what it is. Every player wants to participate in every game, but this one is particularly important and will serve as an excellent test for us.
