NORTHAMPTON CONCEDE LATE GOAL IN DEFEAT AT SHREWSBURY

Northampton Town missed a penalty and conceded late on as they were beaten by Shrewsbury Town in Shropshire.

Sam Hoskins missed a penalty with just under 20 minutes of the game to play, before aDniel Udoh scored in the first minute of stoppage time.

Udoh’s goal was Shrewsbury’s first in any competition since August 15th, ending a seven game goal drought, and the result means that the home side are now level on points with Northampton, who suffered a first loss in 3 games.

A slow first half where little was created at either end saw Northampton miss the best opportunity, which came when Louis Appere released Mitch Pinnock for a drive denied by home goalkeeper Marko Marosi.

In the second half, Lee Burge would deny Udoh before substitute Ryan Bowman missed the target from close range.

With just under 20 minutes left, Northampton were awarded a penalty when Tom Flanagan fouled Kieron Bowie, but Hoskins would fail to add to his goal tally as the Cobblers’ man saw his strike crash against the bar.

It looked like the game was set to end level, but as the game ticked into the first minute of time added on, Northampton failed to clear their lines and the ball fell for Udoh, who drilled a low strike past Burge and into the bottom corner, with the strike turning out to be the game’s only goal.
