Bulut: Fagan-Walcott was a wise acquisition
Malachi Fagan-Walcott’s signing has been hailed by manager Erol Bulut as “good” business, and he has promised to keep an eye on the player’s development with the under-21 team.

On deadline day this summer, the Bluebirds were in the market for at least one center-back, but they were only able to complete the transfer of Jonathan Panzo. Fagan-Walcott, 21, who was previously expected to play for the under-21s, departed Tottenham this week in preparation for his transfer to Cardiff.

Tottenham plan new Fagan-Walcott loan for next season

However, Fagan-Walcott will probably view the road to the first team as an enticing one because the only natural center-back possibilities ahead of him are Mark McGuinness, Dimitrios Goutas, and Panzo. When questioned about the possibility of the defender forcing his way in, Bulut did not fully rule it out.

Bulut praised the signing of the player, saying, “I think our guys in the academy and under-21s made a good job.” We have a good relationship with the under-21s coaches, so we will keep an eye on him if he performs at that level.

Club and star are negotiating a contract.
Ollie Tanner, the winner of the South Wales Derby, is in negotiations with Cardiff City about a new contract.

The 21-year-old winger was acquired from non-league Lewes FC for £50,000 on a two-year agreement a little more than a year ago. According to WalesOnline, the club has the option to extend that by an additional year.

However, it seems as though plans are already in place to bind him to greater terms. “Behind the scenes, we are talking, as always, and we will reach a deal with him,” Bluebirds CEO Ken Choo stated.

“He has shown amazing promise in the past few weeks, but there is a long way to go and a long plan ahead of him. But based on what we have already observed, we are content.

Morison hires a former Bluebird
Lennon Peake, a former member of Cardiff City’s under-21 team, has reconnected with former Bluebirds manager Steve Morison at Hornchurch FC.

Winger Peake rose through the ranks at West Ham before sustaining a serious injury that kept him out for an extended period of time and forced him to leave the Premier League club.

Last season, Cardiff gambled on him and signed him to a short-term deal. However, things didn’t work out for the 21-year-old in south Wales, and it was confirmed this summer that he would be released and not given fresh terms.

And Morison, who took the job at Hornchurch, in the seventh tier, this summer despite being in consideration for a stunning return to Cardiff ahead of Erol Bulut’s appointment, has added Peake to his ranks at the Urchins, having already signed ex-City academy player Jack Leahy earlier this season.

“We are delighted to announce the signing of midfielder/winger Lennon Peake,” the Isthmian Premier League club announced. “Lennon joins from Cardiff City having previously spent several seasons at West Ham Utd, in their Under 21 team. Welcome to the club Lennon.”

Hornchurch are second in the league behind Chatham Town, having won four of their opening six games and drawing the other two.

Sunderland boss: Cardiff are a ‘top, top team’

Sunderland boss Tony Mowbray has challenged his team to extend their winning run to four matches against “top team” Cardiff.

The Bluebirds go into the match having won two on the bounce, but the Black Cats, who defeated Blackburn Rovers 3-1 last night, have three successive victories to their name. Mowbray wants them to go one further, but thinks it’ll be a tough ask against a Cardiff team currently riding the crest of a wave.

“The team are functioning alright”, Mowbray said. “I have just said how difficult it is to win three on the bounce in the Championship.

“It is really, really difficult. I have just challenged them there about can we do four on the bounce on Sunday. Our biggest danger for that game will be ourselves, really.

“We have to turn up and make sure we are right at it, as if we are playing a top, top team and Cardiff, I think have won back to back games now as well so they will be on a high.

“It should be a great game, but a great opportunity for us to keep racking up the points.”

Cardiff take on Sunderland at 3pm on Sunday.

Star makes Team of the Week

Dimitrios Goutas has been named in the Championship Team of the Week after his impressive showing against Coventry City in the 3-2 midweek win.

The Greek was strong defensively and gave Cardiff a quick start with his first goal for the team, a headed goal. following the game, he said he was enjoying life in Cardiff following a challenging adjustment period after leaving Turkish football.

In the victory over Coventry, he commented, “I feel really amazing,” after scoring his first goal. “I believe we earned the victory. The team is fantastic, we’ve put in a lot of effort, yet we still lose games with points left on the board. Now that we are back in business, we must proceed in the same manner.

And Goutas’ situation has improved as a result of receiving an 8.0 rating from WhoScored, whose rankings determine the Championship’s Team of the Year.
