Bucs Players Pulled Team From The Abyss
November 13th, 2023
Maybe Joe’s favorite one-liner from internationally famous JoeBucsFan.com columnist, the Sage of Tampa Bay sports, Ira Kaufman, came while Ira was recording an edition of the “Ira Kaufman Podcast” with Joe from Joe’s room at the posh Aria Casino and Resort in Las Vegas.
It was the day after Tom Brady unretired. Ira said that in the 30-day period that Brady had retired, Team Glazer was “peering into the abyss” of not having a quarterback.
Perhaps the Bucs themselves were peering into the abyss of a lost season last week and maybe a coaching change come January.
Joe brings this up because of the curious comment from Todd
Bowles in his postgame remarks yesterday — about what some of the players did that enabled the team to regroup.
Bowles admitted several Bucs players were “down” after the embarrassing loss to Houston.
“Keeping everybody together,” Bowles said. “The positivity, the focus, the understanding, the communication, talking to guys when they’re down and picking them up, and everybody being in the same boat.
“They do a real good job with that.”
From the way Bowles spoke, it almost sounded to Joe as if the team was on the verge of cracking apart at the seams. When that happens, it’s awfully hard to prevent a full collapse.
And the Houston game was about as close to a team collapse as Joe has seen of the Bucs since the Dirk Koetter regime.
Hey, one win to snap a four-game losing streak is fantastic, no matter who you beat. What this team is truly made of will seen Sunday in California? Can they pull off an upset against the 49ers?
That’s going to take a whole lot more than simple cheerful talk and bro’ hugs.
