If Aston Villa qualify for Europe, it's something to celebrate not fear - The Athletic

DEAN SMITH’S REACTION TO THE SITUATION CONCERNING EZRI KONSA OF ASTON VILLA WAS, “I AM AMAZED.”

Dean Smith claims he is “amazed” that Ezri Konsa, a defender for Aston Villa, has not yet been selected to represent England.

The Holte End hero believes that Ezri Konsa, who he previously worked with at Brentford before joining Aston Villa, believes that the cool-headed center-back will be a ‘major player’ for Unai Emery’s team this season.

As he explained to BBC Radio 5 Live Sport, Dean Smith called a “Rolls-Royce” and said he doesn’t fully understand why Gareth Southgate isn’t selecting him for England.

Tyrone Mings has earned calls to the national team on a consistent basis since Konsa joined Villa in 2019, and rightfully so.

But despite the fact that the man sitting next to him has most likely been the more reliable of the two, Southgate has nonetheless chosen to ignore him.

Without a sure, Mings is the strong, outspoken leader in the back, but Smith also contributed his opinions on Konsa, so Mings hasn’t accomplished everything by himself.

For England, Konsa?
Ezri Konsa will be a key player for them this season, in Smith’s opinion. I’m surprised he hasn’t played for England yet.

He is a player who drives a Rolls-Royce. For the second goal against Newcastle, he made a significant error, but boy, has he grown since then. He is a star athlete.

I honestly don’t know as to why Konsa isn’t selected for England. He stands out to me as one of the best.

“The fact that Steven Gerrard replaced me and continued to use him. Since then, they have also added center-halves, and Unai continues to play him. For me, that indicates that he is rated.

Konsa is unappreciated.

The 25-year-old is an undervalued player for Villa and in the Premier League, and he merits greater praise for his efforts.

Playmakers like Konsa are a major factor in Villa’s return to Europe.

And as Dean Smith pointed out, the Englishman continues to start despite the addition of new players.
