Kennedy eyes another another cup run and West Ham scalp
Former Republic of Ireland international Mark Kennedy is hoping to lead his Lincoln City side to another cup scalp when they take on West Ham in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday evening.
The Imps have enjoyed a number of big wins under the Dubliner, who was appointed manager last year when the club missed out on Shamrock Rovers boss Stephen Bradley.
Kennedy was handed a four-year contract and has overseen some memorable victories already in his time at the LNER Stadium.
Last season Lincoln reached the Carabao Cup last 16, where they lost to Southampton.
A shoot-out win at Sheffield United last month earned the Imps a crack at the Europa Conference League holders on Wednesday, with Kennedy hopeful that top-scorer and former Shamrock Rovers star Danny Mandroiu can return in time to take on the Premier League side.
Lasse Sorensen, their Danish midfielder, believes another shock is very much on the cards.
“It’s always 11 v 11,” he said. “Some might be the favourites and some the underdogs but if you want it more than the others, you are the ones who win it.
“They’re (West Ham) a really, really good team, they are quality players, but it’s not actually won yet.
“It’s been shown before, we beat Sheffield United in the last round so we’ve got a growing belief we could do it again.
“You’ve always got to believe in yourself to do the thing most people think you can’t.”
