The Tottenham games Yves Bissouma will miss after Luton red card as suspension rules explained
Tottenham news as Ange Postecoglou dealt major blow with Yves Bissouma red card against Luton Town
Tottenham were dealt a massive blow before half-time against Luton Town as influential midfielder Yves Bissouma was sent off. The 27-year-old picked up his second yellow card of the game before the break after being caught diving on the edge of the Hatters’ box.
Bissouma has started every game so far for Spurs and has formed a key relationship alongside Pape Matar Sarr in the centre of the field, standing out as one of the best pairings so far. Ange Postecoglou was left to work without the keystone to his side though after the Mali international was sent for an early bath.
It was a double whammy for Bissouma and his side having failed to take advantage of their early dominance in the game, missing several guilt-edged chances in the opening stages. As Luton grew into the game Bissouma’s defensive skills were needed but instead he was only able to pick up a booking.
That alone took him into a one-game suspension due to it being his fifth of the season so far. It meant Bissouma would miss the home clash against Fulham on October 23 after the international break regardless of what followed.
However, there was initial confusion after his second yellow card with it effectively meaning he had picked up two suspensions in one. Far from getting away with it, though, there is now added jeopardy to come.
Premier League rules mean that Bissouma will miss the Fulham clash as punishment for the red card here and will revert back to four yellow cards on his tally. With the double-yellow becoming a red it means that when he does return, likely against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on October 27, he will once more but just one booking away from missing another match.
