Phil Parkinson issues rallying cry to fans as Wrexham AFC enter crucial period - North Wales Live

Grimsby was a difficult play-off opponent, but Wrexham triumphed on Saturday

OLLIE PALMER was happy to exact some retribution on Grimsby Town, but the striker is aware that this season, other teams will be itching to exact retribution on Wrexham.

At the conclusion of the 2021–22 season, Phil Parkinson’s team lost a devastating 5–4 decision to the Mariners in the National League play–off semifinal.

Wrexham overcame that setback last season by winning automatic promotion and making a 15-year comeback to the Football League. On Saturday, the Reds continued their impressive run of success by defeating Grimsby 3-0 at The STóK Cae Ras.

Although the play-off loss was difficult to accept, Palmer is only focused with the present moment.

“You’d be lying if you said you don’t remember those games because they hurt,” the frontman remarked.

“Getting one back is always nice, but football is football. Although you don’t forget it, you do lay it to rest and continue.

“I’m sure certain teams have that feeling about us. When they play us, Notts County will undoubtedly feel that way and will want to demonstrate that they are a superior team, but ideally we will demonstrate our superiority.

Competition exists, but that’s expected in the sector we work in.

We have work to do, and today’s game against Grimsby was more crucial than it was 18 months ago.

Palmer was pleased with the performance as Wrexham completely overpowered the Mariners, extending their unbeaten streak to seven League Two games and moving the Reds up to fourth place in the standings.

Palmer remarked, “I think it was the most complete performance of the year.”

“I believe we have had a few unlucky games in the past where teams may have had four shots and scored four goals.

But that was one of the truly promising performances, among others.

“It’s wonderful to have such a strong performance.

Grimsby is a good team; they were only two points below us going into the game; and the team played well overall.

“A clean sheet, and three good goals.”

Palmer scored the game’s first goal with a header from an Elliot Lee cross to give him two goals so far this season.

“Scoring is always satisfying,” he remarked.

“As a forward, you want to score goals, but I think I try to bring a little bit more to the team than just a goal or two.”

Paul Mullin, the club’s star striker, made his first start of the season and rejoined Palmer in the attack. During the club’s preseason tour of the United States, Mullin suffered a collapsed lung and four fractured ribs.
