Luton Town – Played For Both Revisited – Nottingham Forest

On Saturday, following the conclusion of the second international break of the season, the Hatters travel to the City Ground to face Nottingham Forest.

It is a game, following two home defeats (Burnley and Tottenham Hostspur) that the Hatters will be looking to get a result from.

Back in March 2021, I ran an article – played-for-both-forest-luton – whereby I spent time compiling an XI that contained players that had appeared for both clubs.

It proved to be one of the hardest XI’s I compiled.

However, I finally settled on the following XI (plus substitute):

Goalkeeper – Steve Sutton

Defender – Colin Todd
Defender – Paul Hart*
Defender – Matthew Upson

Midfielder – Garry Parker
Midfielder – Tom Ince
Midfielder – Kingsley Black
Midfielder – David Pleat
Midfielder – Danny Wilson

Striker – Barry Butlin
Striker – Gary McSheffrey

Substitute – Jorge Grant

with Paul Hart being granted a place somewhat as a case of journalistic licence having played for Forest and also having been involved with the Hatters coaching team.

As usual, I asked for nominations, from the readership for the names of others who fitted the criteria.

The following were subsequently received:

Stewart Imlach (8 league appearances for Luton, 184 for Forest)
Chris Cohen (Luton coaching team, 272 league appearances for Forest)
Lee Glover (1 league appearance for Luton, 76 league appearances for Forest)

And, of course:

Mick Harford (168 league appearances for Luton, Forest caretaker manager)

It should also be remembered that Henri Lansbury also fits the criteria (44 league appearances for Luton, 145 league appearances for Forest), as does Ethan Horvath (44 Luton appearances, 6 Forest appearances)

With those three nominations, and on reflection, I’ve opted to revise my XI (plus substitute), so it now reads:

Goalkeeper – Ethan Horvath

Defender – Colin Todd
Defender – Paul Hart*
Defender
 – Matthew Upson

Midfielder – Garry Parker
Midfielder – Lee Glover
Midfielder – Kingsley Black
Midfielder – David Pleat
Midfielder – Danny Wilson

Striker – Barry Butlin
Striker – Mick Harford

Substitute – Henri Lansbury

I’m still kicking myself for the omission of Mick Harford first time around though.

There are some formidable performers in the XI and some names I have fond memories of, but have (we) missed any others who fit the criteria?

If so, please feel free to use our comment facility to inform me.
