NEWS FLASH: The manager of Newcastle has formally left his position due to pay problems.

Newcastle identify short-term replacement for Sandro Tonali – Player ‘open’ to move – Report

According to Mark Douglas at iNews, Newcastle are exploring a loan deal for Man City’s Kalvin Phillips after identifying the midfielder as a short-term replacement for Sandro Tonali

The former Leeds man has struggled for game time under Pep Guardiola since signing last summer and is expected to seek a move in the new year to boost his England hopes ahead of EURO 2024.

Douglas reports that Phillips is ‘open to the move’ in a deal that could work for all parties, providing Man City would sanction a temporary move for the 27-year-old.

His current wages may be a problem, with the player currently taking home a reported £150,000. A compromise may be needed on this front, but he would certainly be a smart stop-gap as we wait to hear what ban Tonali will face following a gambling investigation.

The club are thought to have ‘long-standing interest’ in Phillips and hope to strike a deal, providing Man City will do business; something many ‘big six’ rivals have refused since our Saudi owners arrived.
