Ex-PNE coach Steve Thompson is back in football with Oldham Athletic

A morale-boosting victory over York marks the beginning of Thompson’s interim leadership role.

Last night (Tuesday), Steve Thompson’s tenure as Latics’ temporary manager got off to a fantastic start.

Thompson led a spirit-boosting 2-0 National League victory against York after replacing the fired David Unsworth on Sunday.

Latics were propelled out of the danger zone with goals from Joe Nuttall and Alex Reid.

Only eight minutes into the game, they took the lead thanks to some excellent work by Devarn Green.

He did a great job of picking out Nuttall just inside the box, and the forward finished coolly by twisting and finding the bottom corner.

Late in the game, Reid got a second goal after defying a defender, turning, and firing.

Latics, who are now ranked 19th in the standings, are again in action on Saturday when they welcome Oxford City at Boundary Park.
