A top-of-the-table matchup between under-21s and Sheffield United is scheduled

The Development Squad of Fleetwood Town will resume league play on Tuesday at 2 p.m. when they take on top-of-the-table rival Sheffield United.

The Under-21s will be hoping to improve on their recent league and cup performances. Their most recent match ended in a 3-1 loss to Nottingham Forest in the Premier League Cup on Friday night.

With nine points from their first four games, Matt Lawlor’s team is presently second in the Professional Development League standings. However, they will need to be on their toes against the Blades, who have scored 20 goals in as many games.

Former Club captain Nathan Pond scored in the first half as Fleetwood Town’s Development Squad defeated Cardiff City 4-1 in their Professional Development League opener at Highbury Stadium.

Josh Edwards, Theo Williams, and club icon Pond all scored early in the first half to give Town a commanding advantage at the break.

Midway through the second half, Cardiff got one goal back, but Town’s three goal lead was restored by defender Tom Hoyle with a deft header from six yards out. After receiving two yellow cards, Sam Glenfield was given the red card.

 

The youthful Cods got off to an extremely strong start at home. The Northern Ireland youth international was joined in midfield by Glenfield, George Morrison, and Pharrell Brown.
