NEWS FLASH: Wrexham AFC’s entrance is expected to have a positive impact on the teams.

Phil Parkinson hails Wrexham desire after securing first away win of season

Luke Young disappointed Wrexham’s unbeaten run ended

LUKE YOUNG insists there will be no finger-pointing following Wrexham’s biggest defeat under Phil Parkinson and everyone will shoulder the blame.

The seven-game unbeaten run in League Two came to an end as the Reds were thrashed 5-0 by Stockport County at Edgeley Park on Saturday.

The Hatters took advantage of poor defending to lead three-nil at the break and grabbed a fourth goal early in the second half before completing the scoring in added time.

Young admits Wrexham were nowhere near good enough but the Reds’ captain says the players will learn from it.

“The result speaks for itself,” said Young.

“To a man they were better than us all over the pitch and probably wanted it more than what we did.

“They had a bit more urgency in their play and were a bit more crisper in their passing.

“You can dissect the goals one by one and there are so many different things we can do better as a team.

“It’s not for the want of not trying, it was just one of them days

“It is not just individuals out there, we win together and we lose together.

“We make mistakes together, we learn from it together and we have got to move on.

“We have got to stand up and be counted, we weren’t there at Stockport.”

Wrexham, promoted as National League champions following a record-breaking 2022-23 campaign, suffered a first defeat since the opening day when they went down 5-3 at home to MK Dons.

But Young admits seeing the unbeaten run come to an end in the manner it did, with the Reds conceding five goals for the third time in nine league outings, was tough to take.

“Unbeaten runs are always going to come to an end at some point,” said Young.

“You never want it to in the fashion that it was.

“If it was one of them games where both teams went toe-to-toe and it was decided on one goal, you cant take it a little bit more but when you concede five goals it is definitely harder to take than what it should be.

“It is disappointing and it hurts to lose any game but to lose by five and not get on the scoresheet ourselves, it hurts more.

“We have got to learn from it.

“We can’t give away cheap goals that put us on the back foot and gives us a mountain to climb, especially away from home.

“We have got to look at why we have conceded so many, there are obviously reasons for it.

“It is one of them days where you have just got to hold your hand up and say that we were off it.”
