Martin Coy to Referee Bolton v Northampton Town
Martin Coy will referee Saturday’s Sky Bet League One fixture between Bolton and Northampton Town at the Toughsheet Community Stadium.
Wanderers go into the game on the back of a 3-1 defeat at home to Carlisle United before the international break, while the Cobblers were beaten 1-0 at Shrewsbury Town that same afternoon.
Coy, who will take charge of the game, has officiated nine matches so far this season – issuing 41 yellow cards and two red.
His most recent outing was on October 7, when he was the man in the middle for Tranmere Rovers’ 2-2 draw with Grimsby Town in League Two. The Durham official brandished three yellow cards at Prenton Park, two of which went to members of the home side.
Coy’s last match in charge of Bolton was in December 2022, when they ran out 4-0 winners over Manchester United U21 in a Papa Johns Trophy clash at the University of Bolton Stadium. Three players were cautioned that evening, with Jack Iredale having his name taken for Wanderers.
The last time he refereed a Northampton fixture was in November 2021, as they played out a 2-2 draw with Cambridge United in an Emirates FA Cup first-round tie at Sixfields Stadium. Three players went into the book that day, with Town duo Fraser Horsfall and Shaun McWilliams amongst the recipients.
