Northampton Town boss on timely break ahead of Bolton clash

Northampton boss Jon Brady is keen to make the most of the international break ahead of their clash with Wanderers

Brady’s side head to the Toughsheet Community Stadium to face the Whites on Saturday, October 21.

The Cobblers currently sit 17th in the League One table as they aim to build on last season’s promotion from the fourth tier.

They have won two of their last three matches but fell to a 1-0 defeat at Shrewsbury last time out after Daniel Udoh’s late winner. Sam Hoskins had earlier missed a penalty, hitting the bar from 12 yards.

Brady admits the hectic schedule can be challenging with a smaller squad but hopes his side will be refreshed after the break.

“With two games in a week, we expended a lot of energy,” he told the club’s YouTube channel.

“It is tough with the squad size that we have got and we can’t rotate hugely, so a few players were out on their feet. They gave everything they’ve got.”

The boss continued: “Some certainly need a couple of days rest so that will be important to freshen up.”

Brady felt his side did enough to win against Shrewsbury and was frustrated to give away a goal at the death.

“We were in control of the whole match, especially in the first half with Mitch (Pinnock) and a few other good chances,” he explained.

“Then we had the penalty and, to be honest, we were in full control so the minimum we should come away with is three points. We limited them, and (Lee) Burge wasn’t tested.

“Unfortunately, the goal we concede has too many errors in the build-up. They get a ricochet, it goes wide and I don’t think he should score from that angle either.”

Defender Jon Guthrie was absent from the squad against Salop and is now facing a spell on the sidelines.

The 31-year-old had been a regular in the side over the past couple of months but picked up an injury in the 3-1 win against Reading.
