Sheffield Wednesday remain confident of appointing Danny Rohl as their next boss, reports Joe Crann.
Sheffield Wednesday look set to name Rohl, 34, as their next manager, after sacking Xisco Munoz last week.
The former assistant coach at RB Leipzig, Southampton, and the German national side looks set for his first managerial job, and it’ll be a tough one too.
The Owls remain rooted to the foot of the Champisonhip table; winless so far this season and with just three points on the board after the opening 11 games of the season.
Alan Nixon said earlier in the month that Wednesday were set to appoint Rohl. And that seemingly remains the case, with The Star reporter Crann tweeting earlier this afternoon:
“I know a lot of people want daily updates on the situation, but there’s only so many ways to write that negotiations are ongoing… #SWFC are still confident of getting Danny Röhl, he’s still very keen on the job. It’s just taking time.”
Patience needed at Sheffield Wednesday
Wednesday sacked Munoz at a good time. They gave themselves this international break to find a replacement, but it seems like Rohl negotiations are taking a little more time than needed.
Ideally, the German wold no doubt have wanted to come in much earlier and have had more time to work with this set of players; coming in when he was first interviewed in the summer would’ve been ideal.
But it’s easy to forget that Wednesday still have a long way to go this season.
A few wins and Wednesday are out of the bottom three and looking up the table all of a sudden.
But where those few wins will come from remains to be seen. Rohl has a tough potential first game in charge against Watford later in the month, but it’s one of the few games this season that the Owls might view as potentially winnable.
