Philadelphia Eagles Tried To Make Blockbuster Trade For Broncos Star Corner Patrick Surtain II, Per Report

The Philadelphia Eagles have one of the most loaded rosters in the NFL. But, if general manager Howie Roseman had his way at the trade deadline on Halloween, they would’ve made it even better and added Denver Broncos star cornerback Patrick Surtain II.

That’s according to a source cited by Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio Earlier Sunday, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the San Francisco 49ers were checking in on Surtain II.

“Per a source with knowledge of the situation, both the 49ers and Eagles explored the possibility of trading for Surtain.

They both were calling the Broncos, and they each were concerned that the other would end up with Surtain.

It wasn’t to be, however, because the Broncos wouldn’t trade him without a major haul. The Broncos see Surtain as someone who checks every box,” Florio said.

This would’ve been the biggest trade made at the trade deadline by a good margin. Simply put, Surtain II is a stud, like his father was during his playing days.

The 23-year-old was named a first-team All-Pro at one of the league’s most valued positions at just 22 in his second season last year. The Alabama alum hasn’t quite been as good this year, but he’s still an elite player at a position where true difference makers are few and far between.

But, the Broncos understandably wanted a ton of assets back if they were going to give up Surtain II. After all, the ninth-overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft is still just 23 years old, and is already an elite player at his position.

Ultimately, the Eagles stood pat right at the deadline, while the 49ers made a blockbuster move for former Commanders defensive end Chase Young.
