Pundit raves about 20-year-old Liverpool loanee, says his passing was excellent
Liverpool youngster Tyler Morton used the ball brilliantly during his full debut for Hull City on Sunday.
Morton has started off well at Hull, having signed for the Tigers in a last-second switch on transfer deadline day.
The 20-year-old bagged an assist in an impressive half-hour cameo on debut two weeks ago, before earning another substitute appearance against Leeds United.
On Sunday, he was rewarded with a first start, and didn’t disappoint. Speaking to the What the EFL?! podcast on Monday, pundit Sam Parkin praised Morton’s role in Hull’s 3-1 win over Stoke City.
“It was a slightly different system for this game,” began the former striker. “Regan Slater has been a defensive midfielder give or take for Liam Rosenior.
“It was [Jean Michael] Seri and Tyler Morton who kind of dictated the pace of the game. Morton was on loan at Blackburn last year from Liverpool.
“He and Seri were really good at ball retention, progressing it up the pitch and when they wanted to keep it.”
Morton making good impression
Morton did actually bag himself another assist for Hull during this game – his second in 140 minutes of football. Not bad going.
The Liverpool academy graduate has always been a good passer of the ball, and it’s nice to see that turning into something tangible.
Although he had a productive season at Blackburn Rovers last year, Morton only registered two assists in 40 Championship games.
He’ll be delighted to have matched that for Hull already, and should now be looking to kick on.
Just as Blackburn were last year, the Tigers are looking good for a potential promotion push. It’s still early days, but sitting pretty in fourth after eight games, they’ll be feeling confident of a good campaign.
Having come close with Rovers last year, Morton will surely be desperate to help his new team get over the line and into the Premier League.
If he can play a big part in achieving an unlikely promotion, it’ll do his Anfield chances no harm at all. Great start, Tyler, keep it going!
